Ice Paper's brand-new album ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ is officially released.

2025/11/07

On September 6, 2025, Ice Paper’s highly anticipated new album ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ finally reveals its veil after a three-year hiatus.

This five-year musical cycle began with the birth of ‘Hermit of the Cold Wood’ on June 9, 2020. The 24-track conceptual album built a grand worldview through stories spanning ancient and modern times. Now, with the mirror inversion of "6" and "9", as new life and passing alternate, the nameless ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ takes on the responsibility of guidance, responding to the world’s themes of longing and oaths.

As always, Ice Paper takes full charge of every aspect of the album. While ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ echoes ‘Hermit of the Cold Wood’, it presents cinematic and rich content through more mature production, deeper themes and storytelling. This 55-minute album is more like an immersive film crafted with notes. With profound song structures and concise lyrics as a guide, Ice Paper leads listeners into a corridor of sound and light. There, we will meet departed relatives and close friends, catch a glimpse of ancient city dwellers in the scroll of history, touch the love, hatred and obsession in myths and legends, and experience a journey of turning around and reuniting.

Ice Paper has built the skeleton and soul of the album, and also specially invited several artists to bring unique and timeless interpretations to ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ through their respective artistic forms. Yu-Peng Chen, as the producer of the album’s prologue "Knot of Final Fate", leads listeners into the world of ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’. Gu Jiangshan tells the story of fate and destiny from a thousand years ago in "Daydream". Akini Jing’s singing in "Valhalla" guides heroes to the eternal temple. Hanggai Band’s throat singing and morin khuur in "A Free-Spirited Journey" resonate like heaven and earth, sun and moon, lingering and poignant, enriching the album’s sound and completing its concept.

As the stroke of midnight rings out, the ‘Will-o'-the-Wisp Hunter’ holds fire as a lamp—those dusty memories in time will live forever in the melodies of this moment.
