Jin Chanzi's Album “Narrative Chapter” Now Available: Listen to the Prelude of Transformation Amidst the Shadows of Youth
From the age of nine, when she first recorded a melody that popped into her head using her mother's phone, she gradually developed the habit of capturing musical inspiration. Later, she began writing lyrics for the melodies amidst the background noise in her recordings, turning some of them into demos.
Finally, at eighteen, armed with a dozen demos and songwriting materials, she completed this album with the help of several accomplished music mentors.
During the creative and production process, Jin Chanzi experimented with blending various styles:
In Narrative Chapter, elements of electronic, bossa nova rhythms, Chinese-inspired sounds, and hip-hop are woven into a pop music foundation (e.g., Beginner's Guide to Bouncing, Night Road Song). Yet the album also preserves clean, lyrical tones where Jin Chanzhi showcases her songwriting prowess to weave narratives, evoke moods, or explore reflections (e.g., Snow Season, Speculation, Dream Chronicles).
Setting aside the creative process, For Jin Chanzi, the album Narrative Chapter holds profound significance as a musical chronicle of her transformation: “Is It” marks her first completed song, “Sea Turtle” her debut independently produced demo, while “Untitled,” “Asteroid,” and “Other Side of the World” respectively document her journey through themes of friendship, love, and transitioning into adulthood after graduation.
As December's first snow blankets city corners and Christmas lights flicker in shop windows, “Snow Season” weaves a tender winter monologue with crystalline piano melodies. She softly inquires: “Who is the one you remember?” —Is it the unsent letter, the profile by the hearth, or the promise lost in time? Between lingering regret and acceptance of fate's missed connections, this song transforms festive clamor into the quietest echo within.
《Speculation》
An acoustic guitar plucks through time's sheer veil, its melody drifting between stillness and surge. Within cinematic storytelling, unfinished conversations and hesitant touches materialize through the strings. Speculations of “what ifs” shatter into starlight within the chorus's waves, falling into each listener's own narrative.
Beginner's Guide to Bouncing
Step into this retro-futuristic carnival. No perfect dance moves? Can't sync with the music? This beginner's guide to bouncing teaches you how to unlock your heart's rhythm! Follow the melody and drumbeat, join the free-spirited celebration.
《Asteroid》
Amidst vast orchestrations, the vow “I only wish to follow you” pierces light-years, becoming the gentlest coordinate within the melody. Through a scientist's gaze, we peer from our blue planet toward distant Kepler 186f—could this be our next paradise? Even if the cosmos is barren, the galaxy's dreams and hopes will forever resonate in eternal harmony.
Turtle
Beneath an ethereal, childlike narrative lies an inescapable fate of solitude—in a society that judges by “normality,” innate “difference” is deemed a disease. Yet beneath the horizon, their utopia unfolds; hear woodwinds pierce water ripples like moonlight, piano sighs sink to the ocean floor, strings stir deep blue eddies. The slow, solitary drifting, the yearning beneath the currents, finally surfaces amid the thunderous crash of timpani, revealing the soul's carapace.
《Night Road Song》
Have you ever been lost in the blur between reality and illusion, truth and falsehood? Amidst the deafening roar of countless messages, what should you believe? The bass crawls through shadows, the saxophone flickers like streetlights at a corner. Vision sways with the guitar's plucked strings, yet her voice, like a lantern-carrying passerby, sings the heart's confusion amidst psychedelic bossa rhythms: “When the road vanishes into darkness, let your body follow the swaying instinct.” Ultimately, the master of your spirit should be yourself.
《Dream Chronicles》
Monologues traversing time intertwine with electronic textures, deconstructing Zhuangzi's butterfly philosophy into a modern fable. Where verses weave the strings of Liang Zhu's tale, choruses become wings of metamorphosis—a “self-dialogue” dances gracefully on the edge of chaos and lucidity.
《UNTITLED》
Approaching strings push open the door of an old classroom, where two girls' laughter spins with the crackle of cassette tape. Unnamed secrets hold the deepest treasure: shared headphone cords, notes passed during study hall, a promise twenty years hence...
《Whether》
The youthful vocals from a fifteen-year-old demo meet the resolute declaration of a nineteen-year-old at the microphone, piano keys dropping echoes of overlapping time. They sit facing each other in parallel universes, questioning the paradox of “should” and “should not.” Strings surge abruptly in the chorus, a sudden realization: all choices of youth will find their answers in the harmony of growing up.
《OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD》
This is both a farewell song for high school graduation and an ode to the world's myriad hues. She folds Eastern rhythms into paper boats of Western musical theory, setting them adrift along the Earth's meridians. When the guzheng and synth drum kit embrace in the bridge, cultural boundaries dissolve within the melody—revealing that the other side of the world is both a distant horizon and a path home.
Like a “prologue,” each track in this album narrates Jin Chanzi's worldview in its own way. Together, they form a pen with a warm tip, writing the opening chapter of her musical book and capturing her artistic identity from ages 13 to 18.
It is youthful, where reality and dreams intertwine.
May these works resonate with you at some stage of your journey.
